I thought I would do a post about what resources that we recommend, as I know we are almost over the pandemic but I am also aware there are lot’s more people who have decided to stick with home education. We have been home educating for 6 years now and still remember how overwhelming it was when we first started out! So here are some great home-schooling resources UK, that we have used or still use now.
Home educating in the UK
We have been home educating now for 6 years now and although it is becoming more and more popular in the UK, especially since the pandemic, there are so many people that don’t understand how it works. You can read more about home-schooling your child in the UK, under UK laws here.
You can teach your child at home, either full or part-time. This is called home education. Mel Science : Monthly subscription – A box mailed to your doorstep each month. *Highly recommend*
Duolingo : Foreign languages – FREE resource! Download to your phone, iPad or tablet.
Ixl : Maths and English – Reception up to year 13. (£12.99 – Math & English – Monthly OR £99 annually)
Doodlelearning : Math and English – MATH – Early years-year 9 & ENGLISH – year 1- year 6. (£4.99 each per month) You do however get doodle spell and doodle times tables free with your sign up!
BBC teach : This covers primary and secondary school ages, with a vast array of subjects. Like kids in a candy shop! There is so much to choose from AND a FREE resource!
BBC Bitesize : This is also a great platform to use! This covers educational needs from children ages 3-16+ also a FREE resource!
Twinkl : Provide entire schemes of work, lesson planning and assessments. – Early years -18 years, follows national curriculum.
Scratch : FREE coding website. Scratch is designed especially for ages 8 to 16, but is used by people of all ages. you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Scratchjr : FREE! This is for young children (ages 5-7) can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.
Studyladder : Mathematics, English, Science and more! A comprehensive program of online educational activities for students aged 4 to 12, mapped to the curriculum. ! There are two options, 1 is the free learning portal but I chose the £4 per month premium account, which you are billed for 12 months straight up. You get a parent portal too, where you can set your child’s learning, per subject.

These are resources that we use frequently, covering multiple subjects.
Squadcation – History. At £25 for a years subscription for home educator’s, I had to share! One year’s licence provides access to over 300 films, quizzes and a host of other features. 60 Second Histories is a really neat tool for supporting the National Curriculum for history.
Ixl : Maths and English – Reception up to year 13. Prices from £7.99 per month or £12.99 – Math & English – Monthly OR £99 annually. This is an American site, however, we found it worked for us and they are offering 20% discount to new members!
Twinkl : I love this site! There are so many pintable’s on this site and, you may want to upgrade your ink subscription! This site has a home education section, along with so much more! From early years up to 18 years old, they have something for everyone. We pay £9.99 per month for the ultimate package. Great home-schooling resources UK.
Crash course : FREE! youtube channel: 32 courses on a wide variety of subjects, including organic chemistry, literature, world history, biology, philosophy, theatre, ecology, and many more!
Kidztype : FREE! For kids – encourage typing skills by using fun, mission, and accomplishment-based activities to foster knowledge growth, and to associate typing with positive reinforcement through call and response type prompts.
Nasa Space place : FREE! NASA Space Place’s mission is to inspire and enrich upper-elementary-aged kids’ learning of space and Earth science online through fun games, hands-on activities, informative articles and engaging short videos.
